COMSTOCK CHARTER TOWNSHIP

NOTICE OF PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING AND PUBLIC HEARINGS
TO: THE RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS OF COMSTOCK CHARTER
TOWNSHIP, KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MICHIGAN, AND ANY OTHER
INTERESTED PERSONS:
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Comstock Charter Township Planning Commission
will hold public hearings at its regular meeting on November 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., at the
Comstock Township Hall, 5858 King Highway, within the Township that will include the
following:
1. Proposed amendments to the “keeping of chickens” provisions of the Comstock
Charter Township Zoning Ordinance, particularly regarding the number of hens
permitted; size of coop and pen; as well as any dimensional standards that may be
applicable.
2. Proposed amendments to the Accessory Structures provisions of the Comstock
Charter Township Zoning Ordinance, particularly regarding the maximum
accessory structure square footage, siting location, dimensional standards, and any
other provisions that may impact the erection of an accessory structure within the
Township.
3. Proposed amendments to the Comstock Charter Township Zoning Ordinance and
Map pursuant to the request of Redwood USA, LLC for conditional rezoning of
two parcels within the Township at 6787 E H Ave and 3615 N 28th St (Parcel
Nos. 3907-05-480-015 and 3907-05-480-025; approximately 20.66 acres) from
the present R-l A Single Family Residential District to the RM Multiple Family
Residential District, with conditions offered by the applicant.
4. Proposed amendments to the Comstock Charter Township Zoning Ordinance for
the creation of an overlay district and/or a floating overlay district pertaining to
the siting of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The Comstock Charter Township Planning Commission reserves the right to make
changes in the above-mentioned proposed amendments at or following the public hearing.
Anyone interested in reviewing the rezoning application, the proposed amendments, and
the current the Zoning Ordinance/Map/Land Use Plan may review these materials upon request
to the Charter Township of Comstock before the Planning Commission meeting and such items
will also be available for review at the meeting. These materials may also be viewed online prior
to the scheduled meeting. All interested persons are invited to be present at the aforesaid time
and place. Written comments will also be received concerning the above matters at the address
below at any time during regular business hours on regular business days until and including the
day of the meeting, and may further be submitted to the Planning Commission at the meeting.
Comstock Charter Township will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and
services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audio tapes of printed material being
considered at the hearing, to individuals with disabilities at the hearing upon four (4) days’ notice
to the Township. Individuals with disabilities requiring auxiliary aids or services should contact
the Township at the address or telephone number listed below.
