Video: Comstock Charter Township gears up host first Farmers Market in Merrill Park
Big and exciting changes are coming to Merrill Park this summer.
Comstock Charter Township is planning to host our first Farmers Market.
Comstock Charter Township Farmers Market Manager Katie Bush said, “The farmers market will run on Mondays, beginning June 3, 2024, through September 30, 2024, and it’s going to be at Merrill Park here.”
The market will feature locally made and grown goods, along with food trucks, and community booths with weekly entertainment and kids’ activities.
Katie said, “We found out through a recent Facebook survey and looking through various master plans that people have been asking for a farmers market.”
Our first farmer’s market is the product of a lot of hard work.
“I did go through the process of becoming a certified market manager. It was a 30-hour certification course that, among some of the other objectives, really helped me understand the licensing and regulations that are placed upon vendors.”
As of March 8, 2024, we’re still looking for market vendors.
Katie says that there is a wide range of goods we would love to have sold at the market.
“Our priority is locally grown and made products, we would like to have a great mix of produce, homemade treats like homemade breads and jams, pet food products, and handmade artisan products as well.”
Interested applicants can fill out an application at https://comstockmi.gov/farmers-market/.
Katie is looking for vendors with different levels of experience.
“With this being the first farmers market,” Katie said, “I really hope to have seasoned vendors as well as to help any new people along with the process.”
We hope to provide the Comstock Community with a community space to gather and support local farmers, gardeners, and artisans.
“Farmers markets are all about community pride,” Katie said,” we really want to honor that and celebrate what Comstock Township has to offer.”
