From Kalamazoo County: Dog Licensing Season Opens in Kalamazoo County
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kalamazoo County residents are reminded that dog licensing season is officially underway now through March 1, and dog owners are encouraged to renew their licenses promptly, with online renewals available at ase.kalcounty.com. First-time applicants may call 269-383-8775 to be given an online account and pin number. Otherwise, new license applications must be dropped off in person or mailed to the Kalamazoo County Animal Services & Enforcement Department at 1316 Lamont Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
“Licensing your dog is the responsible thing to do as a pet owner, but it also lets us have some fun unveiling the top dog names in the County,” said Chad Ensign, Animal Services & Enforcement Director. “Bella was the top dog with 365 total licenses, and Lucy, Daisy, Luna, and Charlie filled out the rest of the top five as the most popular dog names in Kalamazoo County.”
Michigan State Law mandates that all dogs be rabies vaccinated and licensed by 4 months of age. New owners or those with dogs reaching 4 months of age must license their pets within 30 days. Kalamazoo County license tags are exclusively available to County residents and must be renewed annually during dog licensing season between Dec. 1 and March 1.
Owners of dogs under one year of age pay the altered rate, regardless of spay/neuter status. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required for license purchase, and proof of spay or neuter is required after a dog is over one year old. Licenses are non-transferable between dogs.
Licenses are available at various locations, including area veterinary offices, township/city offices, and the Kalamazoo County Treasurer’s Office.
