From Consumers Energy: Credit Card Changes

From Consumers Energy:

Starting Oct. 1, 2023:

  • Residential customers who wish to use a credit or debit card will pay an additional $2.99/transaction, up to $1,000 per transaction.
  • Small business customers, who recently could not pay with a card, will be able to resume card payments with a $9.99/transaction fee, up to $2,500/transaction.
  • Due to card company policies, card payment methods can no longer be used with auto-pay or text payments. Customers who wish to remain on auto-pay will need to switch to a secure ACH payment through a checking or savings account.

Customers can continue to make fee-free payments with:

  • ACH payments
    • Via checking or savings bank account as auto-pay or individual payments through their Consumers Energy customer account online, via phone, or through our mobile app.
    • Please note that guest payments through these channels also incur the same fee. Customers should make sure their ACH payment method is stored in their account wallet before making a payment to avoid this fee.
  • Cash
  • Check
  • Money order

We understand our small business customers need to have flexible options for their success, and we feel this new program allows for this within the scope of larger efforts to provide reliable, safe, and affordable energy. Customers can find information on all payment methods and channels at www.ConsumersEnergy.com/WaysToPay.
