National Night Out 2023

It was a beautiful Tuesday evening and families were gathering in Merrill Park

Hots dogs were sizzling on the grill.

And there were tons of police cars in the parking lot

Plus, a couple of fire engines

Not to mention Kalamazoo County’s Emergency Management Mobile Operation Center.

Thankfully this wasn’t an emergency, but Comstock Charter Township participating in National Night Out.

This is the 2nd time a National Night Out event has been held at Merrill Park.

Comstock Charter Township joined roughly 17,000 other communities in providing a space for first responders to connect with the communities they serve.

The Kalamazoo county sheriff’s Office showed up in force, with patrol vehicles, jet skis, and even horses.

Animals stole the show, with dogs up for adoption from the Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement.

Besides a chance to meet some wonderful animals, attendees got free food and ice cream, thanks in part to the Comstock Center DDA.

Community members also had a chance to hop inside emergency vehicles, talk to first responders, and meet the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller.

They also got to meet all the agencies here to help Kalamazoo County, such as the great lakes drone company, who brought some of their drones for a demonstration.

Attendees were able to talk to local law enforcement in a relaxed space.

This is the second time a national night out event has been held at Merrill Park.
