Comstock Charter Township’s Adult Softball League
Playing ball is an old tradition in Comstock.
According to some accounts in the Comstock Bicentennial Book, boys in the township would play baseball when they brought their family’s cows out to pasture around Merrill Park in the early 20th century.
We continue that tradition today, somewhat.
Comstock Charter Township has hosted an adult softball league for several decades.
Comstock Charter Township Parks and Recreation Director Danielle Myrkle said, “Adult Softball has been going on with us for over 30 years.”
Thankfully, we have better ball fields and fewer cattle.
“The league is out here at the Wenke Softball Complex,” Director Myrkle said, “on Mondays, we have the co-ed softball, there are five men and five women who play on the field at a time. Wednesday nights are our men’s league.”
Our spring and summer softball league starts on April 24, 2023.
The season runs for eleven weeks, followed by a double-elimination playoff weekend.
We have multiple games every evening we play.
Director Myrkle said, “Teams play at 6:15 pm,7:30 pm, and 8:45 pm”
All skill groups are welcome, so don’t worry if you have a team of rookies.
“We try to split the teams into upper and lower divisions, based on their abilities,” Director Myrkle said, “usually, the upper league is a little bit more competitive than the lower league. Mostly, everyone is out here to have a good time and play ball.”
Director Myrkle says the league has become a welcoming community.
She said, “There are a lot of the same teams that come back and play every year, occasionally we have a few new teams that do sign up.”
The deadline for registration and payment for the 2023 season ends Tuesday, April 11th, so don’t hesitate to sign up.
“You can register online on our website and it’s comstockmi.gov,” Director Myrkle said, “You submit your registration form there with your team’s information and then you can pay for it over the phone, in the office with a card, cash, or check.”
For the 2023 season, there will be a mandatory manager’s meeting on Thursday, April 20th at 6:00 PM.
